Primus handed Pompey deal
03 Jul 2009 - 12:58:12
Defender Linvoy Primus will extend his nine-year association with Portsmouth after agreeing a new 12-month contract.
The 35-year-old right-back has been at Fratton Park since 2000 and has been handed a new deal despite only making a handful of appearances last season.
A series of knee problems restricted him to just one Premier League appearance as a substitute in the penultimate weekend of the last campaign.
However, his new deal will combine playing with an ambassadorial and advisory role.
"I'm going to be working with the younger players on and off the pitch," he told the club's official website.
"I'm not going to be coaching them, I'm going to be more of an advisor, more of a mentor for them.
"I'm definitely going to finish my career here and then stay with the club when that finishes.
"In the two years that I haven't played for the first team, the club have stood by me and looked after me.
"They made sure my knee is fine and have given me an opportunity to play and also given me the chance to move into a new role."
