Portsmouth v Barnsley preview
Team news ahead of Saturday evening's Championship clash between Portsmouth and Brighton at Fratton Park (kick-off 5.20pm). Luke Varney returns to the Portsmouth attack. Varney has missed the last three matches, from which Pompey picked up just one point, through suspension after he was sent off against Hull last month. Fellow striker Dave Kitson is close to fitness after missing the last five games with a rib injury and will be assessed ahead of kick-off. Defender Aaron Mokoena is pushing to return to the starting line-up after a slight back problem. Goalkeeper Stephen Henderson could keep his place after making his league debut in the 1-0 defeat at Leeds last time out. Henderson, who joined from Bristol City over the summer, got the nod ahead of regular number one Jamie Ashdown. Barnsley pair Craig Davies and Rob Edwards are back in contention following long-term injuries. Davies, a summer signing from Chesterfield, has been sidelined since August due to a groin problem, while defender Edwards has been out since early September with a torn hamstring. Manager Keith Hill, who has no new injury or suspension problems, is also confident skipper Bobby Hassell can shake off a knock sustained in the win over Coventry last time out. But midfielder David Perkins is not likely to recover from a hamstring strain, while long-term absentees Matt Done and Danny Haynes (both hamstring) remain sidelined. Midfielders Reuben Noble-Lazarus (ankle) and Goran Lovre (knee) are once again out, alongside defender Luke Potter (knee). The Tykes are aiming to extend their unbeaten league run to eight matches.
