Portsmouth move for Cardiff star Ross McCormack after Peter Crouch seals Spurs switch

Portsmouth manager Paul Hart has moved to fill the gap left by the sale of Peter Crouch by making an approach to Cardiff about striker Ross McCormack. Crouch was reunited with former Pompey boss Harry Redknapp at Tottenham in a £9million deal. The Bluebirds have refused to comment on the approach but are believed to beprepared to allow the 22-year-old McCormack - top-scorer with 23 goals lastseason - to leave for £5m. Meanwhile, Hart could be closer to bringing in Mouhamadou Dabo from St Etienne, according to reports in France. The versatile, 22-year-old full-back has been capped by Les Bleus, making his debut against Argentina in February. The Senegal-born star, who played 10 games for France Under 21s, has been with St Etienne for the past six seasons making close to 100 appearances. Hart is also exploring a number of other options - he has been linked with Croatia striker Nikola Kalinic - and former Liverpool Steve Finnan, who has been released by Espanyol. Portsmouth need to sell to stabilise their financial situation but Hart denied that he is looking to offload Sylvain Distin and David James. However, he has not ruled out the departure of Nadir Belhadj.
