Portsmouth sweating on Marc McNulty and Kyle Bennett for play-off first leg

Portsmouth hope to have Marc McNulty and Kyle Bennett back for the League Two play-off semi-final first leg tie against Plymouth at Fratton Park.

On-loan Sheffield United striker McNulty resumed training on Monday after a three-match absence with a hamstring injury while winger Bennett is also progressing encouragingly in his recovery from the ankle ligament damage he suffered last month.

Pompey boss Paul Cook, who guided Chesterfield to the League One play-offs 12 months ago, will also assess the fitness of Matt Clarke, Conor Chaplin and Ben Close.

However, Cook will definitely be without Kieron Freeman after his red card against Northampton on the final day of the regular season and Adam Webster (ankle) who is still injured.

Plymouth manager Derek Adams also hopes to have players back for Thursday night.

Adams was keeping his team news close to his chest at his pre-match press briefing but did hint that everyone could be fit and healthy, meaning the likes of Peter Hartley (hamstring), Jamille Matt and Reuben Reid (thigh) will be available.

Carl McHugh was another not involved at the weekend after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury and the defender will be checked on.

Luke McCormick will return in goal for Argyle, replacing Vincent Dorel, while Jake Jervis may also come into Adams' thinking for a recall.
