Whatmough worry for Pompey

Jack Whatmough is battling to be fit for Portsmouth's clash with Hartlepool.

The teenage defender limped off during last Saturday's 2-1 win at Newport with a hip injury but boss Andy Awford has not ruled him out.

Full-back Danny East (ankle) and midfielder Simon Ferry (back) are closing in on returns after long spells out and could be added to the squad.

But skipper Ben Chorley is still suspended following his recent red card against York while Romain Padovani (calf) and Andy Barcham (thigh) remain doubtful after missing out last weekend.

Hartlepool striker Marlon Harewood remains doubtful due to an ankle injury.

Harewood sustained the problem in the recent home defeat to Mansfield and missed last weekend's 1-0 reverse against Cheltenham, so Jonathan Franks will be hoping to continue up front alongside Luke James.

Centre-half Scott Harrison and midfielder/defender Connor Oliver are both hoping to be included in the squad for the first time after their recent arrival on loan from Sunderland.

Defender Neil Austin (toe), plus midfielders Andy Monkhouse and Antony Sweeney (both hamstring) will play no part as Pools bid to halt a run of three straight defeats.
