Pompey hedge bets on Benson

Paul Benson could make his Portsmouth debut against Doncaster after joining on loan from Swindon on Friday.

The 33-year-old striker has scored three times for the Robins this season.

Elsewhere, Pompey are hopeful Gabor Gyepes and Akos Buzsaky will be fit to face Rovers. Centre-half Gyepes had to be replaced at half-time during last weekend's defeat at Bury after feeling unwell, and midfielder Buzsaky missed the trip with a tight hamstring.

However, caretaker boss Guy Whittingham will still be without West Brom loanee Scott Allan, who serves the final match of a three-game ban for his red card against Notts County.

Fellow midfielder Darel Russell played his first 65 minutes in six weeks at Bury after a hamstring injury and came through unscathed.

Winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing could be added to the squad after joining on loan from Peterborough.

Doncaster hope skipper Rob Jones will return.

Jones missed the home defeat to Bournemouth last Saturday with concussion after suffering a badly swollen forehead during another loss at the Keepmoat Stadium to Crewe four days previously.

Rovers boss Dean Saunders is also hopeful that fellow defender Shelton Martis will be fit after he withdrew from the squad to face Bournemouth on the day of the match with a hamstring problem.

However, Kyle Bennett will remain on the sidelines with a knee injury and the winger is not expected to be fit until the end of the month, while defender Jamie McCombe (back) is a long-term absentee.

Ahead of the trip to Fratton Park, Saunders said: "I'm not surprised we've lost the last couple of games because we've been missing half a team."
