Problems mount for Pompey

Portsmouth have been hit by a spate of injuries ahead of the visit of Accrington.

Ricky Holmes suffered concussion during the 2-1 defeat by Southend on Wednesday and is set to miss out along with Jed Wallace, who sustained an ankle injury.

They are set to join Simon Ferry, Shaun Cooper (both hamstring), Danny East (ankle), Andy Barcham (thigh) and Tom Craddock (knee) on the sidelines.

Boss Richie Barker has drafted in young Swansea defender Daniel Alfei on a month's loan to ease the injury crisis so he is likely to make an immediate debut.

Experienced full-back Nicky Hunt is a major doubt for Accrington.

The former Bolton defender had to come off in the first half on New Year's Day after sustaining an ankle injury in the loss to Fleetwood and although boss James Beattie is hopeful the problem is not too serious, the amount of swelling suggests an imminent return to action is unlikely.

Stanley have no new injury problems, although George Bowerman missed out on Wednesday following a recent chest problem, but Beattie was disappointed with a jaded squad in midweek which suggests he could shuffle his pack.

Beattie allowed goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin out on loan to Chesterfield on Thursday which, with only one keeper in the squad, suggests a new stopper will arrive soon while Michael Richardson is back at Newcastle following the expiration of his loan.
