Portsmouth hit lowly Hartlepool for four

Caolon Lavery scored for the fourth time in six games as promotion-chasing Portsmouth thrashed struggling Hartlepool 4-0 at Fratton Park.

Lavery opened the scoring 12 minutes before half-time with a superb curling effort from the edge of the penalty area.

The hosts doubled their lead four minutes later when Pools defender Adam Jackson diverted Ben Davies' teasing low cross into his own net.

Gareth Evans made it 3-0 in the 61st minute with a powerful left-foot drive after Marc McNulty played Enda Stevens' centre into his path.

McNulty completed the rout a minute from time with his fifth goal since joining Pompey on loan from Sheffield United.

Stevens set McNulty through on goal with a precise through ball and the forward calmly rolled his shot past former Pompey goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

Paul Cook's Pompey are now unbeaten in their last six games and have won their last three at home.
