Portsmouth and Accrington draw a blank

Portsmouth and Accrington both failed to take their chances in a battling 0-0 draw at Fratton Park.

The home side remain unbeaten and stay among the League Two pacesetters, while Accrington still have not won on the road this season.

Michael Doyle eyed an early goal for Portsmouth when he attempted a speculative strike from his own half but goalkeeper Jason Mooney watched it fly wide from outside his box.

Stanley captain Terry Gornell headed narrowly wide before Pompey's Gary Roberts twisted past right-back Matt Pearson and flashed a powerful strike on target.

The hosts' replacement keeper Paul Jones, who replaced Brian Murphy at half time, was forced into a sharp stop just 10 minutes after coming on, although Sean McConville will be disappointed he did not score after finding himself one-on-one.

Attacking midfielder Josh Windass went close with a 20-yard dipper, and at the other end sub Matt Tubbs demanded a good save with his overhead kick.

Referee Brendan Malone handed out a series of yellow card, and Pompey boss Paul Cook piled on strikers but neither team could find a winner.
