Pompey win Kaboul chase
11 Aug 2008 - 08:07:29
Portsmouth are on the verge of completing the signing of Tottenham's central defender Younes Kaboul.
The 22-year-old Frenchman will move to Fratton Park if he passes a medical on Monday for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £6million.
Kaboul recently turned down a switch Sunderland and had also been linked with Aston Villa.
Pompey coach Joe Jordan said: "Kaboul should help. He's a been a long-term target of the manager.
"He's only 22 and is coming to a good place to learn, with Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin."
Kaboul's agent, Rudy Raba, had said less than two weeks ago: "He wants to go to Portsmouth, he would prefer to go there.
"Sunderland wanted to know within 24 hours but, while he is thankful to Roy Keane for his interest, the boy has decided he does not want to go there."
Kaboul only moved to White Hart Lane last summer and scored four goals in 29 appearances before drifting out of first-team contention in the closing weeks of the campaign.
