Pompey to recall Mendes

Portsmouth midfielder Pedro Mendes is set to be handed a rare start against West Ham United this weekend.

The 28-year-old Portuguese has not started a league game for more than two months for Pompey, but is set for a call-up to face the Hammers due to Sean Davis' suspension.

Boss Harry Redknapp told The News: "Pedro will come back in against West Ham, definitely. He's a good pro and a good player.

"The team's been winning lately and it hasn't been easy for him, but it's difficult to move it around when things are going well.

"Sean Davis plays the holding role at the moment and we're playing with three in the middle. It's working well for him."

Former Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur schemer Davis has excelled alongside Papa Bouba Diop and Sulley Muntari, but has also picked up five yellow cards already this term.
