Pompey tie up Kanu deal
18 Aug 2006 - 07:47:30
Portsmouth have completed the signing of former Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion striker Nwankwo Kanu on a one-year contract.
The 30-year-old Nigeria international left the Baggies at the end of last season and has been training with Pompey for the last couple of weeks.
He netted seven goals in 53 league appearances for Albion, having moved to The Hawthorns two years ago.
Kanu previously enjoyed a five-and-a-half-year stint with the Gunners, where he scored 44 goals in 198 first-team outings.
He also played for Internazionale and Ajax earlier on in his career.
Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is happy to have his fifth summer signing on board, but still wants to bring in further reinforcements.
He commented: "We are still at least four players short and a run of injuries would be very bad news for us.
"We've tried for a long list of big signings and the owner has been ready to put up the money for them.
"But other clubs just don't want to sell their good players and it has been a frustrating time."
