Pompey still hope to keep Sol

Portsmouth's executive chairman Peter Storrie is still hoping to persuade Sol Campbell that his future lies at Fratton Park.

The 34-year-old, who has spent the last three seasons with Pompey, is out of contract and has been linked with a move to Swiss side FC Basle.

Storrie said of the former Tottenham and Arsenal defender's future: "We've discussed whether he'd want to stay or not.

"It wouldn't be on the terms he's on at the moment because, as players get older, there's a different structure.

"It would be based more on appearances than on basic. But at the moment he's gone on holiday. At the moment he's probably looking to make a change, but we'll have talks with him when he comes back."

Campbell has made 111 appearances for Portsmouth since joining the club in the summer of 2006.
