    Pompey plan James boss talks

    21 May 2010 - 09:34:58

Veteran goalkeeper David James has emerged as a surprise potential candidate for the managerial vacancy at Portsmouth.

Pompey are on the lookout for a new manager following the decision of Avram Grant to end his reign on Thursday evening.

The south coast club remain in administration and will play in the Championship next season following a turbulent campaign.

But despite the continued uncertainty at boardroom level at Fratton Park, James has emerged as potential candidate to take the reins.

The 39-year-old England keeper is out of contract next month but has been offered a new deal by administrator Andrew Andronikou.

Andronikou has also now revealed that he is keen to discuss a possible move into management with James, who is currently away on pre-World Cup international duty with England.

"I believe David wants to go into management one day, although I'm not sure if this will be too soon for him," said Andronikou.

"But he is one of the most articulate guys I have ever met and I shall be discussing the situation with him."
