Pompey Pegged Back By Preston
Preston North End 1 Portsmouth 1
Pompey conceded 13 minutes from time to draw with Preston at Deepdale and drop two precious points in the fight against a points deduction next season.
Things couldn't have started better for the blues as good work from David Connolly saw him tee up Jed Wallace for his third goal in three games.
Having not attended the game myself it seems like Preston dominated the rest of the half reading various reports as the hosts hit the woodwork twice and Eastwood had to make a couple of good saves to preserve the lead.
Preston's equaliser was a good one in fairness. The ball dropped to Keith Keane on the left corner of the box and he rifled the ball into the top righ corner of the net. Eastwood couldn't have done anything about it.
The draw may be a good result on paper but has done little for Pompey's survival prospects. Portsmouth still remains five points behind Oldham after their 1-1 draw at Swindon but have moved a point closer to Colchester after their defeat to Bournemouth.
However, Scunthorpe are now the team to catch after they beat Leyton Orient 2-1. They are now six points ahead of Pompey, effectively sixteen with the points deduction and so with only fifteen left to play for it is now certain (if it wasn't already) that Portsmouth will be playing in League Two next season.
Still, there is a possibility that the points deduction can be avoided next season but victory over Tranmere on Easter Monday is now imperative.
