    Pompey pair please Harry

    17 Sep 2007 - 15:06:15

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp praised defensive duo Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin after their solid displays in the goalless draw against Liverpool at Fratton Park.

Nwankwo Kanu's penalty miss robbed Pompey of all three points, but Redknapp was not too discouraged after seeing his side thwart one of the Premier League's big guns.

He told The News after the stalemate: "It was an even game, but we had a couple of great chances.

"But if you take a point from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal you are never going to complain, because they are the top teams.

"At the back Sol Campbell was back with Sylvain Distin and there won't be too many better central defensive pairs.

"They would be as good as anything in the country. I wouldn't swap those two for any other two.

"John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho are fantastic. Rio Ferdinand and the big Serb Nemanja Vidic are outstanding, but our two would be right up there with the very, very best of them.

"The goalkeeper behind them is also the best, so it's a solid base to work from."
