Pompey pair pen new contracts

Portsmouth youngsters Joel Ward and Tom Kilbey have committed their futures to the club by penning new contracts. Defender Ward, who made his debut in the Carling Cup tie against Hereford last season, has signed a new two-year deal to keep him at the club until 2012. Midfielder Kilbey, who has yet to appear for the first team, will remain at Fratton Park until June 2011. Ward told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to sign an extension. It's a great opportunity to progress, break into the first team and then hold onto my place. "Having been at Pompey since I was eight and having been a fan I absolutely love the club and just want to continue to be here." Kilbey added: "This is the year where I'm looking to progress. Last season a couple of the lads got a chance in the first team but now with everything that's going on and a new manager coming in, I can hopefully show him what I can do."
