Pompey make Adams proud
28 Nov 2008 - 08:35:30
Portsmouth boss Tony Adams was proud of his players after they had held Italian giants AC Milan to a 2-2 draw at Fratton Park in an entertaining UEFA Cup encounter on Thursday.
It could have been an even better result for Pompey as they had led 2-0 with only six minutes to go.
However, late goals by Ronaldinho and Filippo Inzaghi ensured the points were shared, although Adams insisted that did not take the shine off his team's performance.
He said: "I'm delighted. I thought they were excellent tonight. It was a really positive performance, the tempo was great and the crowd enjoyed it.
"Games like that are fantastic. That's what I want to be doing with my life. This is where I want to be and, as long as the players are performing like that, then I'll be very proud of them.
"At the moment we're struggling to put teams to bed but they have some excellent players and, if you switch off, then they punish you.
"I was very entertained by my players tonight. We can work on picking teams up from set-plays but it was a fantastic free-kick."
Meanwhile, Glen Johnson believes the free-kick from which Ronaldinho scored the Rossoneri's first goal should not have been awarded.
The former West Ham United and Chelsea defender said: "In my opinion it was never a foul. But it's one of those things, I suppose. Ronaldinho can cause havoc when he's on those free-kicks, as he showed.
"Obviously we worked really hard during the week. We worked our socks off and the score was a bit unlucky for the boys."
