Egypt international Amr Zaki is on the verge of moving to Portsmouth on a one-season loan deal, according to reports.
Pompey boss Paul Hart believes Zaki will be the ideal replacement for Peter Crouch who sealed his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week.
The El Zamalek striker spent last season on loan with Wigan Athletic, scoring 11 goals in 32 appearances for the club.
However, his form dipped in the second half of the campaign and he fell out with then Latics boss Steve Bruce after returning to England late from international duty.
Hart snapped up right-back Steve Finnan on a one-year deal on Tuesday evening and is believed to also be keen on bringing Cardiff City striker Ross McCormack and Croatia international Nikola Kalinic to Fratton Park.
Reading's Stephen Hunt is also being linked with a move to the south coast as is veteran goalkeeper Antti Niemi.
