Portsmouth have landed their second free agent signing in the space of three days after snapping up Hermann Hreidarsson from Charlton Athletic.
The 32-year-old Iceland international has followed former Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin into Fratton Park after exercising a clause in his contract which allowed him to leave Charlton on a free transfer following their relegation from the Premiership.
Hreidarsson, who has had spells with Crystal Palace, Brentford, Wimbledon and Ipswich Town during ten years in English football, has agreed a two-year contract with Pompey.
"I've always liked Hermann. I tried to buy him before and I'm delighted he's now here at Portsmouth," Pompey boss Harry Redknapp told the club's official website.
"He's got great experience at Premier League level, he's big, quick, very good in the air and a good competitor.
"He can play at left back and in the centre of defence so he gives us plenty of options."
Hreidarsson added: "I was very close to joining Portsmouth a few years ago, but now this club is a very different one with big ambitions.
"I'm very happy to be here and I'm sure the club will be pushing for a place in Europe next season."
