Pompey claim Kaboul deal
26 Jul 2008 - 11:39:06
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is confident that his club will win the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur's French defender Younes Kaboul.
The 22-year-old former Auxerre stopper had seemed set to become one of four Spurs players to join Sunderland, despite late interest from Aston Villa.
However, Redknapp now believes that Kaboul will opt to head to the South Coast to join the FA Cup holders.
He told the Daily Star: "Sunderland and Aston Villa both made fantastic offers, but the lad decided he wanted to come to Portsmouth.
"Hopefully the deal will be completed over the weekend. Younes is a good, young player with bags of potential and he will be a great addition to the squad."
Kaboul only moved to White Hart Lane last summer and scored four goals in 29 appearances before drifting out of first-team contention in the closing weeks of the campaign.
