Pompey chasing Wright-Phillips

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is keen to add Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips to the host of England internationals at Fratton Park.

David James, Jermain Defoe, Sol Campbell, Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson are all currently on Pompey's books, and Redknapp has not ruled out the prospect of former Manchester City Wright-Phillips arriving on the south coast this summer.

He said: "At the moment we like him, he's a good player but he belongs to Chelsea.

"We've spent some money on Peter Crouch, so the situation is that we have two other options but Shaun Wright-Phillips is a terrific player.

"You're always looking for one or two players to improve your squad.

"I feel we need to improve in one or two areas but every manager says that and I'm sure we'll get one or two before the start of the season."

Meanwhile, Redknapp has handed a trial to the Gambian striker Omar Krumah. American goalkeeper Dominic Cervis is also currently trying to earn a contract with the club.
