Pompey aim to keep Sol
28 Mar 2007 - 10:45:40
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp claims Sol Campbell can play on in the Premiership until at least 2009 and he wants the veteran defender to do so at Fratton Park.
Campbell moved to the South Coast club last summer after leaving Arsenal on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old still has another season left on his contract and Redknapp is hoping to extend the former England defender's stay at Fratton Park for at least one more year.
"Without any doubt, I would like to keep Sol Campbell here longer," said the Pompey chief.
"He's been fantastic. He can keep playing in the Premier League for a few years yet.
"I'm sure Peter Storrie, our chief executive, will sit down and chat with Sol at some point.
"But not at the moment while we're getting on with the season."
The former Tottenham Hotspur central defender has made 31 appearances for Pompey this season.
