Pompey Triumph In Charity Friendly

Portsmouth 2 FC Rostov 0

Second half goals from Marko Futacs and Greg Halford saw a strong Pompey team defeat FC Rostov in front of 4,348 fans at Fratton Park.

Futacs was handed a start along with Ryan Williams whilst Steve Cotterill also handed a trial to Spanish left back Fernando Vega, who played for Real Betis last season.

The first half was more lively than the second, despite the lack of goals as Luke Varney went close with a header and then forced Rostov 'keeper Anton Kochenkov into a good save.

Kochenkov was busy with Futacs and Williams forcing him into action but it was Jamie Ashdown who produced the save of the half when he tipped Dragan Blatnjak's free kick onto the crossbar.

The second half lacked any real action until Futacs opened the scoring in the 74th minute, although the Hungarian knew nothing about it as a clearance fortunately hit his foot and deflected into the net.

Greg Halford then sealed the victory when Kochenkov flapped at a corner kick and left the centre back with a free header with just ten minutes of the game to go.

It wasn't a massively entertaining game from the sound of things but those who went deserve praise for raising money for the Russian hockey team crash victims.
