Pompey takeover edges closer

Portsmouth are reportedly ready to announce the identity of the man backing Peter Storrie's bid to buy the club within the next 24 hours. Pompey confirmed last week that current chief executive Storrie is leading a consortium that is in talks over a takeover at Fratton Park. The group was 'very positive' that the negotiations would be successful and the mystery businessman behind the deal is soon to be unveiled. "It is all being dealt with by the lawyers and everything has to be in the right place before an announcement can be made," said a club spokesman. What role current owner Sulaiman Al Fahim would have in Storrie's proposed takeover remains unclear and he insists that he is still involved with the future of the club. Ivo Ilic Gabara, spokesman for Al Fahim, said: "Sulaiman is still very much involved in the deal and remains committed to the takeover and the club. "He will not attend this evening's game (against Hereford) as he is out of the UK. However, he will be there on 30th August for the match against Manchester City."
