Pompey pay players' wages

Portsmouth have confirmed the players have finally been paid September's wages. It was revealed last week that Pompey's players and the members of the club's board did not receive their wages for September as anticipated last Wednesday. The club claimed that the matter was because of a 'delay in the transfer of funds' as Sulaimain al-Fahim tried to refinance the club. Al-Fahim bought Portsmouth in August, but he failed to produce the neccesary funds to run the Fratton Park outfit. Al-Fahim found the finances after selling his stake in the club to Ali Al-Faraj on Monday after whirlwind talks with the Saudi-Arabian billionaire. Al-Faraj's lawyer confirmed their first task after completing the takeover was to pay the overdue wages and that has now been finalised. Relieved Pompey defender Hermann Hreidarsson confirmed that the players had received notification that their delayed wages would be paid. And he admitted that the ownership saga had not affected the squad, whose spirits were lifted on Saturday with their first victory of the season at Wolves. Hreidarsson told Sky Sports News: "We are more relieved about getting the three points on the table, we are off and running. "The ownership is out of our hands, we have to do our job on the pitch and the rest will take care of itself. "We've got a payslip, that's a good start, so we know we could have been paid. "It's not been a major factor really, we know they've been working hard behind the scenes to get it right. They've done a deal which has gone through and we're all happy. "As long as we get paid and put some points on the table, we'll have to wait and see if we need more players." Administration threatAl-Fahim later told Radio Solent: "The club will always have the ability to use the finances I have created and brought in, which will be ready by the third or fourth week of October." The 32-year-old claimed that he invested £5million into Portsmouth in August to prevent the club going into administration. He continued: "I have invested in the club in August, where I saved the club from going into administration by the end of the month. "When they sold 90 per cent of the club to Al-Faraj's consortium, I did not ask for a penny to pay me back - I asked him to invest more in the club."
