Pompey name new chief executive

Portsmouth have appointed David Lampitt, the Football Association's head of football integrity, as their new chief executive.[LNB] Lampitt takes over the role at the crisis club from Peter Storrie, who stepped down on March 12.[LNB]He will take up the post once his period of notice has been agreed with the FA.[LNB]Portsmouth take on Tottenham in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday, but could be relegated from the Premier League before they take to the pitch if results go against them.[LNB]Avram Grant's side are 14 points from safety with five games to play, having been deducted nine points on March 17 for going into administration.[LNB]Lampitt told Pompey's official website: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to take up this new challenge with Portsmouth.[LNB]"The club has been through some tough times this season and I intend to bring some stability and transparency to operations.[LNB]"Pompey have some of the best fans in the country and they deserve their great support to be matched by equally high standards of governance at the club.[LNB]"I wish Avram, the team and the fans the very best of luck in the FA Cup semi-final at the weekend and look forward to coming on board as soon as possible."[LNB]Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou added: "I am pleased that we have attracted someone of this calibre to become chief executive.[LNB]"My objective is to ensure that the club exits from administration as soon as possible and it is critically important for Portsmouth's future that we have, in David, a chief executive who will be widely acknowledged and recognised as a safe pair of hands."[LNB]Lampitt, a qualified chartered accountant, has worked at the FA since 2003 and sits on UEFA's club licensing committee.[LNB]FA chairman Lord Triesman told www.thefa.com: "David Lampitt has been with the FA for six years and has made an outstanding contribution to our regulatory obligations.[LNB]"It is a great tribute to him that one of our oldest and most famous clubs should look to his expertise and personal character to bring it through a time of great difficulty.[LNB]"Portsmouth's fans should take comfort in a wise, long-sighted appointment and I wish David every success."[LNB]Alex Horne, acting CEO of the FA, added: "We would like to wish David the very best in his new career and we value his contribution to the organisation.[LNB]"We will be sad to see him leave once arrangements have been finalised with Portsmouth."
