Pompey Loan Sonko From Stoke

What's this? Portsmouth have actually signed a player!? (No, not yet anyway...) Ibrahima Sonko has signed for Pompey on a season-long loan from Stoke City, subject to the Football League's approval. With the transfer embargo still in place, I'm not entirely sure how Pompey are allowed to make this signing, though David Lampitt is going to speak to the Football League in the very near future to push it through. If the move is sanctioned then the 29-year-old Senegalese defender could take part in the rest of Pompey's USA tour.If this signing does go through then I think this is a very shrewd move by Steve Cotterill. Sonko was one of Reading's most important players when they won the Championship with a record points total and he should still be very capable at this level. The only real downside to this deal is that Sonko has had his injury problems in recent years, hence why he hasn't featured much for his parent club.I think that this will be a great signing for us if the Football League allow it, given our current lack of centre backs at the moment we certainly need him!
