Pompey keen to keep James

Sulaiman Al Fahim is desperate for England goalkeeper David James to stay at Portsmouth as the summer transfer deadline approaches. Al Fahim, who has agreed to buy Pompey from Alexandre Gaydamak, was at Fratton Park at the weekend for the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City when James was ruled out through injury. "We don't need to sell players," Al Fahim insisted. "Sylvain Distin leaving was disappointing for me. We would like David James to stay at the club." Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has first-choice stopper Heurelho Gomes currently sidelined and is a huge admirer of James, who has seen Distin, Glen Johnson, Lassana Diarra, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch leave Portsmouth recently.
