Pompey deny Halilhodzic link

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has denied that the club are in talks to appoint Ivory Coast boss Vahid Halilhodzic as their new manager. The Bosnian has admitted that he is negotiating with Pompey over the possibility of taking over at Fratton Park, a charge Storrie vehemently denies. Ivory Coast officials expect Halilhodzic to step down from his post as national team chief next week before he takes over the Premier League club. Prospective new Pompey owner Sulaiman Al Fahim is almost certain to name a new manager when he finally takes over the club next month but Storrie is adamant that he is yet to begin a search for a new boss with caretaker manager Paul Hart still in charge. "It's complete and utter rubbish. There's nothing in it at all," he told The News. "We've had no discussions or meetings whatsoever." Meanwhile Storrie has reiterated that Peter Crouch is not for sale after rumours linked the striker with former club Liverpool and German outfit Wolfsburg. "Peter's one of our major assets. He's someone we want to keep and build a team around." Pompey captain Sol Campbell has also been rumoured to have been offered a contract by Greek side Atromitos. The defender's current deal expires at the end of June although any move to Greece looks unlikely with Atromitos unable to match the 34-year-old's hefty wages.
