Pompey Deducted Ten Points

Football League sanctions administration penalty.

The Football League have confirmed that Pompey have been docked ten points only for going into administration.

There were fears that the points penalty might have been harsher because this is the second time the club have been in this situation in two years, but it has been confirmed that there will be no further punishment.

Portsmouth can appeal the penalty within seven days but it's unlikely that they will do so, meaning the club is now in 21st position in the Championship, one point above Doncaster and level on points with Coventry and Nottingham Forest.

However, Pompey have a game in hand on Coventry but Doncaster have a game in hand over us. One significant factor to take into account is goal difference, where ours is significantly better than the three teams below us.

Pompey will drop into the relegation zone tomorrow if they lose to Barnsley as Nottingham Forest are playing Coventry so one team is guaranteed to pick up some points.

There can be no doubt that Pompey now face a relegation battle to avoid dropping into League One next season.
