Pompey could be in peril - Storrie
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie admits the club's future is in jeopardy unless a buyer can be found before next season.Fratton Park owner Sacha Gaydamak is looking to sell the club after struggling to cope with mounting debts, but a deal is yet to materialise even though the reported asking price is a relatively attractive £35million.The FA Cup holders were forced to sell Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe during the January transfer window in a bid to balance the books.And while Storrie claims no more players need to be sold in the summer, he admitted he has been working hard just to keep the club afloat.Storrie, who is in talks with two consortiums interested in taking over, told a fans' forum: "If we do not get a new buyer by next season, it does not bear thinking about."It has been a nightmare. From when Sacha told me he could not put any more money in and had to sell, we were really working on keeping the club going."We had £12.5million left to pay on transfer deals and had to sell players. We were operating on our income and it was not adding up."We are close to having balanced books now and we do not have to sell players this summer."Storrie confirmed that Ramon Vega had expressed an interest in Portsmouth, but was left distinctly unimpressed by the former Tottenham defender.The Pompey supremo said: "We laughed him out of the city."He wanted to pay £1 but would not take on the club's loans and said if Sacha Gaydamak wanted his loan money back, he would have to sell players and take it from that."It would have been an unmitigated disaster."[LNB]
