Portsmouth have confirmed the appointment of Sulaiman Al Fahim as the club's new chairman. The proposed takeover of Portsmouth has been going on for a number of weeks with rumours that the deal could fall through. Al Fahim struck a deal to buy Portsmouth from Alexandre Gaydamak in late May before entering a period of legal and financial due diligence. Due diligence was completed earlier this month and the Premier League revealed earlier on Tuesday that Al Fahim had passed their fit-and-proper persons test. The club have now officially confirmed a deal has been completed with the Dubai-based businessman joining the Fratton Park board and taking up the role of chairman. "I very much look forward to working closely with the club's management and supporters to develop Portsmouth Football Club and deliver future success," Al Fahim told the club's official website. "The club has a long and fine history of achievement that I intend to build on." Peter Storrie, who will remain as chief executive at Pompey, believes the deal will bring stability to the club. "This appointment brings stability to the club and is excellent news for Pompey supporters," said Storrie. "I have every reason to believe that together with the new chairman we will be able to take the club forward to further achievements building on the successes of the past three years."
