Portsmouth have confirmed Hermann Hreidarsson has agreed to sign a new contract at Fratton Park. Hreidarsson's deal was due to expire at the end of the month, but the veteran defender has accepted a new 12-month contract. There is also the option for the 34-year-old to extend his stay by a further season providing he appears in a set number of games next term. The Icelandic stopper had been wanted by Middlesbrough, while Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers had also shown an interest. However, he has opted to extend his two-year stint on the South Coast and Portsmouth are delighted Hreidarsson will remain part of the squad. Executive chairman Peter Storrie told the club's official website: "Hermann's been looking at his options and he's decided he wants to stay. "He's very strong and fit and had a great second half of last season. "Hermann's a real character and a great influence in the dressing room, so we're pleased to have him back."
