Pompey blunt at Basingstoke

Portsmouth's pre-season preparations continued with a lacklustre 0-0 draw against Basingstoke at The Camrose. Indeed it was the Blue Square South side that had the best two chances of the match, as David Pratt hit the post after five minutes and Jahson Downes fired an effort against the bar just after the break. Portsmouth's best two opportunities fell to David Nugent and Niko Kranjcar as both brought Basingstoke goalkeeper Ross Kitteridge into action with a pair of decent saves. Portsmouth started with five trialists as Eugen Bopp, Fabrice Pancrate, Onismor Bhasera, Thierry Audel and Modeste M'Bami were all given opportunity to impress. Bopp, released by Crewe, scored twice in midweek against Havant and Waterlooville but was unable to make a similar impression on Saturday.
