Sacked Portsmouth manager Paul Hart is considering an offer to remain at the club as technical director, despite reports yesterday claiming he had turned down the role following his dismissal.[LNB]'Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Paul Hart has been relieved of his duties as first-team manager,' read the initial statement yesterday.'Paul was offered the role of technical director, developing players from the ages of 18-21, but declined the position.'[LNB] Tough task: Hart has only managed to muster seven points from Portsmouth's first 13 Premier League games[LNB]However, that statement was countered today when a club spokesman revealed Hart was considering the offer. [LNB]'Hopefully he will stay at the club and work in the capacity of technical director,' the spokesman said. 'Everyone at the club would be delighted if he stayed.'[LNB]Hart steered Portsmouth to safety at the tail end of last season after Tony Adams' disastrous tenure left Pompey facing relegation. This season, though, the south coast outfit have been destabilized by constant boardroom unrest and sit bottom of the Premier League with just seven points from 13 games.[LNB]Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has been installed as the early favourite to succeed Hart despite attempting to distance himself from the position.[LNB] Next in line: Avram Grant (left) and Darren Ferguson (left) are the bookmaker's favourite to succeed Hart in the Portsmouth hot seat[LNB]The Israeli would be an obvious internal choice having returned to the club for a second spell as director of football in October.[LNB]He took charge of Chelsea in similar circumstances two years ago and went on to lead the London club to the Champions League final.[LNB]Darren Ferguson is also among the leading contenders having left Peterborough, the club he guided to two promotions, earlier this month. Should the former Posh boss take the reins this week, his first assignment would be against his father Sir Alex Ferguson.[LNB]The experienced Steve Coppell and Alan Curbishley, who are both out of work, could also be candidates.[LNB] Portsmouth sack Paul Hart as former Chelsea boss Avram Grant and Darren Ferguson lead race to replace himPortsmouth's Hart of steel: The man with the hardest job is hanging onSpurs boss Harry Redknapp backs old pal Avram Grant for Portsmouth jobALL THE PORTSMOUTH FC
