Pompey Appoint Cotterill

Ex-Notts County manager joins Portsmouth on a three year contract. Steve Cotterill has been appointed as the new manager of Portsmouth FC on a three year contract. The 45-year-old has previously managed Notts County, Burnley, Cheltenham Town, Stoke City and Sligo Rovers, as well as a spell as assistant manager at Sunderland. From what I have heard from the fans of some of those clubs, Cotterill is good at organising a defence but his teams do not play the most attractive football. He can manage a club on a shoestring budget though, which means he fits the bill perfectly.I think Cotterill is the best man we could have realistically hired given our current situation. Talks of managers like Alan Curbishley coming to Fratton Park were optimistic to say the least, but at least we haven't hired someone like Paul Ince or Glenn Hoddle. It's going to be a tough job for Steve but I'm sure that our fans are going to back him and give him time. After all, since promotion we've had Harry Redknapp (twice), Velimir Zajec, Alain Perrin, Tony Adams, Paul Hart and Avram Grant at the helm.So it would be nice to have some stability at Fratton Park for once in a while, and I think that's something that both David Lampitt and Steve Cotterill have been brought in for. With the CVA accepted and Cotterill appointed, the club continues to rebuild and now what's needed is the transfer embargo to be lifted and the new owners to arrive.Andrew Andronikou will resume talks with interested foreign parties next week, so hopefully there will be some progress in the near future. It's not all good news though, unfortunately. Spare a thought for those who have been made redundant by Portsmouth yesterday, including some of those for a second time after the players originally agreed to help pay their wages.Administrator Michael Kiely has said that there will be no more job cuts from now on, however.
