Players union wants Portsmouth and Crystal Palace talks over unpaid wages

Cash-strapped Portsmouth will be asked to guarantee that there will be no repeat of the club's recent pay-day problems.[LNB]Pompey chiefs failed to follow through with their promise of paying the players today after Avram Grant's squad were made to wait for their wages for the third time this season.[LNB]And players union, the Professional Footballers Association, are demanding talks with the Fratton Park club to ensure the late payment of wages does not happen again. [LNB] Pay up Pompey: Portsmouth players have been forced to wait for their money[LNB]'We are aware that this is a delicate situation, said PFA senior executive Nick Cusack.[LNB]'We are trying to work with the club through what is proving a difficult period. [LNB]'For now, we are hopeful that the players will be paid on today, with the club honouring the statement they made to do so last week.[LNB]'Once we have crossed that bridge, we will seek to speak with the club and the players in an effort to avoid the situation repeating itself again in the future.[LNB]'Nobody can accuse the players of being unreasonable. They have just asked to be kept fully informed of the situation at all times and asked for a line of communication with the hierarchy, which they received when the club issued their statement last week.[LNB]Show me the money: Warnock[LNB]'We now expect them [the club] to honour that commitment before we meet with Portsmouth's officials and the players to discuss how best to address the situation going forward.'[LNB]Meanwhile, the PFA also want to hold discussions with Crystal Palace's players this week after their wages were delayed for the fourth time this year.[LNB]Cusack added: 'I will go and speak to the players about this later in the week. We are working hard on the players' behalf and will seek to speak with the club to avoid this being repeated in future.'[LNB]PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor added: 'It's a very worrying situation.
