With Portsmouth in turmoil on and off the pitch, Paul Hart was the man the club turned to when nobody else wanted the job.[LNB]Charged with the task of maintaining Portsmouth's top-flight status in the wake of Tony Adams' disastrous brief tenure, he steered the club to safety with two games remaining.[LNB]That, however, was by no means the end of the uncertainty for Hart or Portsmouth as a summer of farce ensued, brought on by Sulaiman Al Fahim's embarrassing takeover plans.[LNB] The job nobody wanted: Paul Hart has been sacked by Portsmouth[LNB]The businessman with a talent for self-promotion but without the cash to back up his claims had the likes of Sven Goran Eriksson and Roberto Mancicni linked with the Fratton Park hot-seat.[LNB]Takeover plans: Sulaiman Al-Fahim[LNB]Once again, it was Hart who stepped forward to take the job, this time on a permanent basis when none of the more illustrious candidates fancied the task of rebuilding a side decimated by the departures of a host of top quality stars, including Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch, to balance the books.[LNB]Hart was forced into a late bargain basement recruitment drive as Al Fahim finally struck a deal with Sacha Gaydamak to take over the club on August 26.[LNB]The result was that Hart led Portsmouth to the worst start to a campaign in their111-year history.[LNB]Matters in the boardroom were hardly progressing any better as Al Fahim was finally forced to hand over control to Ali Al Faraj - and in came Avram Grant as technical director.[LNB]But disenchantment among Portsmouth supporters was growing and on Tuesday they got their wish.[LNB]It remains to be seen, however, whether likely candidate Grant can do any better in the job that nobody wanted.[LNB] Portsmouth sack Paul Hart as former Chelsea boss Avram Grant and Darren Ferguson lead race to replace himPay up Pompey - Bottom club hit by Premier League transfer banPORTSMOUTH FC
