Oxford First Up For Pompey

League Two fixtures 2013/2014

Portsmouth will begin the League Two season with a home match against Oxford United and also end the season at Fratton Park when Plymouth Argyle are the visitors.

The first away trip of the season is the long jaunt to Lancashire to play Accrington Stanley, who are now managed by Pompey arch-villain James Beattie.

Boxing Day sees Pompey play Dagenham & Redbridge for the very first time as they make their way down to the south coast whilst 2014 will be welcomed by some Pompey fans in Essex with a trip to Southend United on New Year's Day.

Strangely, there is a lack of midweek fixtures away from home scheduled for this season. Wycombe isn't too far to go on January 28th but the March 25th trip to Rochdale on a Tuesday night is something only for the diehard Portsmouth fans. No doubt the winter weather will see some games postponed to midweek, too.

But that should be the only real complaint about this fixture list as far as Pompey fans are concerned. This is the first time since the 2006/2007 season since Portsmouth have begun and finished the season at home, unless there is a play-off campaign to come.

The opening day should see plenty of Oxford fans travel to Fratton Park to enhance the atmosphere whilst Plymouth supporters should also sell out the Milton End for what will hopefully be a celebration come the final day.

The new season begins on Saturday, August 3rd. Here are the fixtures in full:
