O'Neil committed to Boro
Middlesbrough midfielder Gary O'Neil has rejected claims he wants to leave, insisting he will play for the club as long as he is wanted.
The 25-year-old was heavily linked to former club Portsmouth during the January transfer window with Boro rejecting a bid from their Premier
League rivals.
Speculation surrounding a potential move suggested that O'Neil's family were unsettled in the area and wished to return further south where they
are originally from.
But the Londoner has since quashed the rumours by insisting he is as committed as ever at the Riverside and insists he will do all he can to help the club with their relegation battle.
"There's no situation. I'm desperate to keep Middlesbrough in this league," O'Neil told the Evening Gazette.
"I'll play for this club as long as I'm asked to. The whole time I've been here the fans have been fantastic with me.
"I'm just desperate to do well for myself and the club so hopefully we can finish as high up the table as possible," he added.
O'Neil's enthusiasm has been evident in recent displays as he has played a key part in Boro's recent form which has seen them unbeaten in four games. The midfielder also pointed out that his season has been disrupted by injuries.
"I'm disappointed because I've had a lot of niggles and a six-week hamstring injury which came about in the Bolton game and that was the last time I had a run in the team," he said.
"I scored at Everton and played well at Aston Villa and we were on a good run and since then my season has been broken up a bit with niggles and I feel I'm just getting back into the swing of things now. I'm just going to play as hard as I can."
