Nugent suffers fresh blow

Injury-plagued Portsmouth striker David Nugent has been ruled out for a further two months following hernia surgery.

The 23-year-old frontman has failed to make a single appearance this season and underwent surgery on the same problem last January.

The former Preston North End striker has started just five Premier League games following his £6million arrival at Fratton Park 16 months ago.

"David's had a hernia operation which is disappointing for the lad, it really is," revealed manager Harry Redknapp.

"He hasn't played since the start of the season.

"The problem's come up again so he had to go to London for an operation. Let's hope it works this time.

"It's disappointing. We'll just have to see how it goes."

Meanwhile, Pompey are waiting on news of the knee problem which has forced midfielder Lassana Diarra to pull out of the France squad for their weekend World Cup qualifier against Romania.
