Nugent relishes Pompey starts
30 Mar 2009 - 07:59:03
Portsmouth forward David Nugent says he is happy to play out of position if it means securing a run in the first team at Fratton Park.
The 23-year-old had struggled to make an impact under former Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, but has been a regular since Paul Hart took charge.
He told The News: "I always wanted to be a striker and score goals, but if the gaffer wants me to play wide and chase wingers back I'll do it.
"If he wanted me to play at the back, I would do it.
"Harry Redknapp was the lowest point of my career, I was sitting on the bench and was never even being told to warm up.
"Last season I could have gone to Ipswich or Stoke, but I wanted to prove myself as a Premier League player.
"I am glad I stayed now that I have been given my chance and have scored a few goals to prove everyone wrong.
"Tony Adams gave me a chance and I scored a few goals for him. Now Paul Hart's here doing a good job and under him and Brian Kidd things are going well so far.
"With Tony and now Paul, my confidence has come back. I'm happy at Portsmouth and am really enjoying it."
