Nugent pleads for chance
28 Sep 2007 - 14:24:12
Portsmouth striker David Nugent has urged manager Harry Redknapp to give him a chance in the first team.
The England striker has started just two games following his £5million move from Preston North End during the summer.
The 22-year-old has scored twice for Pompey in two League Cup appearances - including the winner over Burnley in midweek - and is hoping his goalscoring exploits will earn him a start in a Premier League outing.
Speaking about making a belated impact on the top-flight, he said: "I know that is what I've got to do because it is all about goals.
"They give you and the team more confidence and hopefully I will get more chances."
Nugent could get his opportunity against Reading on Saturday as Nwankwo Kanu (knee) and Benjani Mwaruwari (thigh) are struggling to shake off injuries.
The former Bury hitman scored 37 times in two seasons with Preston.
