Nugent: My future is in Premier League

urnley loanee David Nugent insists he has every intention of staying in the Premier League - with or without the struggling Clarets.[LNB] Although Nugent's loan spell with the Clarets from relegated Portsmouth has three games to run, the 24-year-old has already written off his prospects of a south coast return.[LNB]Burnley's chances of remaining in the top flight are hanging by a thread, with the possibility they will also be down by the end of Sunday's Turf Moor showdown with Liverpool.[LNB]If West Ham beat Wigan on Saturday and the Clarets lose to the Reds then they will be joining Pompey in the Championship next season.[LNB]Nugent, though, has no intention of returning to that level now he has tasted the big time, with the likelihood he could link up with Owen Coyle at Bolton after initially joining the Clarets on loan when the Scot was in charge.[LNB]"Being contracted to Portsmouth, it was hard to take when they were relegated," said Nugent.[LNB]"But I'm already looking to the future, and next year I don't see myself there.[LNB]"I've not spoken to anyone. I just want to stay out of the way for now, focus on Burnley and keeping them in the Premier League. That is my main objective, so we will see what happens.[LNB]"I'm going to wait until the end of the season to decide my future, but I don't think it will be at Portsmouth. I'll probably be looking for a new club in the summer.[LNB]"If Burnley stay up I'd love to stay, but if they go down then I don't see myself staying. I've got to stay in the Premier League to further my career.[LNB]"I thank Burnley for giving me the chance to play in the Premier League, which is the best in the world, and that's where I want to be."[LNB]Boss Brian Laws can appreciate Nugent's desire to remain in the top flight as he said: "I don't think what he has said surprises anybody.[LNB]"If we stay up then we would love him to be here. He enjoys it and wants to be part of it.[LNB]"But he wants to stay in the Premier League because he is a player of Premier League quality."[LNB]The priority now for Burnley and Nugent is Sunday's game against a Liverpool side who will be playing their third match in seven days.[LNB]Sandwiched in between two league games has been an exhausting trip to Madrid to play Atletico in the first leg of a Europa League semi- final, spending 24 hours on the road due to the travel chaos caused by the ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano.[LNB]Nugent, due to recover from a hamstring injury which sidelined him for last Saturday's defeat at Sunderland, is naturally hoping boss Rafael Benitez's side are overcome with fatigue.[LNB]"They've had a long journey with their trip to Spain, so hopefully they'll be a bit tired and we can take advantage," added Nugent, a boyhood Everton fan.[LNB]"Going into the weekend we know if West Ham win we're seven points behind, and if we lose we're down.[LNB]"We can't think like that, but you do. It's in the back of your head we could get relegated.[LNB]"But we have to be positive. We're all hoping Wigan do us a massive favour, and I'll be a Wigan fan tomorrow.[LNB]"Hopefully everything goes for us and then we can capitalise."
