Nugent Guarantees Stay

Dave says he won't be moving anywhere in January. David Nugent has told the local news today that he "guarantees" that he will be staying at Portsmouth until the end of the season and hopes a new contract can be signed in the future.David Lampitt is set to meet with Nugent's agent in Leeds next week after initial talks on Wednesday. But the Pompey striker, who has six goals to his name this season, insists he is happy at Pompey."I am happy here, playing football, scoring goals, there's no need to move." says Nugent who also added; "I have spoken to the gaffer and he wants me to stay so it's nice to know that someone wants me to stay and play for the football club."This statement reflects a positive in Steve Cotterill's management skills. You never see any of the Pompey players say a bad word about the current Pompey manager in the press, unlike a certain other former Pompey boss.It seems like Cotterill knows how to build relationships with his players and bond them into a team. He has managed to get John Utaka working hard, so he must be doing something right! As for Nugent, there still may be the possibility that the club will try and force him to leave in January in an attempt to recoup some of the £6 million Harry Redknapp paid for him in 2007. The former Preston man is out-of-contract at the end of the season and could leave for nothing in the summer.Even if the club attempted to force Nugent out again like they tried last summer, he could simply ignore the phone calls as cheekily he says: "it's not up to me to answer my phone."So it looks like one of Pompey's most important players is set to stay at the club in the short-term, let's hope it's for the long-term too.
