No complaints from Harry
27 Nov 2006 - 09:00:02
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp admitted his side's display at St James' Park on Sunday had been poor as Pompey slumped to a 1-0 defeat against a revitalised Newcastle United side.
Antoine Sibierski scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half but the defeat could have been heavier but for goalkeeper David James' heroics.
"To be honest I could see it being a 0-0," Redknapp said after the defeat. "It was disappointing because we didn't really cause them any problems and I don't think Shay Given had a decent save to make.
"We lost the goal when they broke on us and once they scored it was going to be hard.
"Matty Taylor is struggling with an injury he picked up today to his back and Dejan (Stefanovic) is going in for an operation.
"We've lost Glen Johnson who was also very important to us and you really need your full squad to be fully effective.
"We couldn't have any complaints about the result however, but on the plus side we have 23 points and are in a healthy position because of the great start we made.
"We have a hard game at Liverpool coming up on Wednesday and two equally tough ones against Aston Villa and Everton at home but we will keep on going."
