New Nugent offer ruled out
03 Aug 2008 - 11:48:17
Ipswich Town have denied lodging a formal offer for out-of-favour Portsmouth striker David Nugent, who is expected to leave Fratton Park this summer.
The 23-year-old struggled to make his mark with Pompey last term following a £5million move from Preston North End, scoring three goals in 22 appearances.
That led to some interest from the Tractor Boys in the January transfer window, but an injury to Nugent ended any hopes of a loan deal.
However, both clubs have been quick to deny that a transfer has been resurrected in recent days.
Town chief executive, Derek Bowden, told the club's official website: "We have not made any formal offer for the player."
A Pompey spokesman added: "Ipswich did register an interest in David Nugent last season and there was some dialogue between the clubs.
"But there has certainly been no further contact since then."
