Mokoena to stick with Pompey
06 Jan 2010 - 15:06:07
Midfielder Aaron Mokoena has pledged to stick with Portsmouth despite the financial turmoil threatening to engulf the club.
Mokoena was brought to Fratton Park in the summer and has seen the Premier League's bottom club lurch from one disaster to another during his time on the south coast.
He and the rest of the squad have not been paid on time on three occasions this season, but the South Africa midfielder has no plans to walk away.
His words of support come hard on the heels of reports claiming that forward John Utaka is in talks with Ligue 1 outfit Sochaux over a potential move to France.
"In this month's transfer window period I have been approached by several clubs but I have made it clear I'm not going anywhere," declared Mokoena.
"Portsmouth are going through some internal challenges, but the new owners of the club are doing their utmost best to sort out the problem.
"I have been with Portsmouth for six months and I have no immediate plans to leave.
"We need to win at least four games. As players we have decided to treat all the remaining games like a cup final to escape the relegation axe."
