    Landmark night for James

    31 Jan 2008 - 09:20:37

Portsmouth first-team coach Joe Jordan paid tribute to veteran David James, after the goalkeeper made his 500th Premier League appearance in the 2-0 defeat at Manchester United.

The 37-year-old has enjoyed an illustrious career with Watford, Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City and Jordan thinks his player could still do a job for England.

He said after the Old Trafford reverse: "David has been with us for three years and to reach 500 games is a great achievement.

"I cannot speak about what he was like before he came to us, but he has been very consistent in his time here.

"David is different class. We believe he is the best British goalkeeper around."

James himself told the club's official website after the loss on Wednesday evening: "I'm delighted to have reached 500 games, it's just a shame that we ended up losing.

"Manchester United are the best side in their country and at their best I don't think anyone can beat them."
